The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing (OBG(N)) along with 2nd year MSc OBG (N) specialty students of 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 College of Nursing, MAHE, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 in collaboration with Women’s Cell, Milagres College, Kallianpura, celebrated 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 Women’s Day 2018 on 7th March 2018.

Chief guest Dr Vincent Alva, Principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur, highlighted importance of womanhood. Dr. Pratap Kumar, Professor & Unit - I Head, Dept. of OBG, Kasturba Hospital 亚洲通_亚洲通官网, spoke on “Adolescent Health”. He highlighted on the menstrual problems, especially on endometriosis which is an emerging concern.

Dr. Maria Pais, Asst. Professor, Dept. of OBG (N), MCON 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 discussed healthy lifestyle practices for adolescents and Mrs. Ranjani P, Asst. Professor, Dept. of OBG (N), MCON 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 demonstrated yoga for the healthy living. The program ended by Vote of thanks and National Anthem. A total of 65 undergraduate students and five faculty attended the programme.

Also a poster competition was held for faculty and students of constituent units of 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 Academy of Higher Education on 7th March 2018, on the theme “Press for Progress”. About 47 posters were displayed and the winners were awarded.

Department of Community Health Nursing along with 2nd year PBB.Sc (N) students of 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 College of Nursing, MAHE, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网, organized an awareness programme at State Home, Nittur on 8th March, 2018 at 3 pm. The programme commenced with a prayer song and welcome speech followed by lamp lighting. Chief Guest of the programme was Mrs. Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Udupi district.
The presidential address was delivered by Mrs. Gracy Gonsalves, wherein she emphasized on maintaining unity among the residents of State Home. Dr. Shashidhara Y N, Head of Community Health Nursing Department, delivered a talk on Women’s Day theme: Press for Progress. Following this the students of 2nd year P.B.B.Sc Nursing presented a role-play on Women Empowerment. Interactive session was conducted by Mrs. Ansuya, Department of Community Health Nursing, on “Menstrual Hygiene and Menopause”. A game was conducted and a video was played in accordance to the theme. The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks by Ms. Shalini, 2nd year P.B.B.Sc Nursing student.
Health Assessment was conducted by the students after the programme, which included the assessment of height, weight, BMI, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. The risk assessment analysis showed that out of 41 residents, 8 clients were overweight and 2 clients had high blood sugar level.

The II year postgraduate students and faculty members of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 College of Nursing, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 Academy of Higher Education, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 in collaboration with self-help group of St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur celebrated 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 Women’s Day on 18th March 2018.
The programme was inaugurated with a prayer song and lamp lighting by the dignitaries. Mrs. Treesa D’souza, president of self-help group of St. Lawrence Basilica Church, welcomed the gathering. Chief Guest, Fr. George D’souza, Rector, St.Lawrence Basilica, Attur, spoke on the importance of womanhood. He stressed on the importance of women presenting themselves well and having kindness in their speech. Fr. Reginald Pinto said that, stronger the woman, stronger is the family. He went on to explain that, more the knowledge a woman gains, she brings more love into her family and makes her home God’s home. He advised the women to do good to the society with the knowledge one has gained. The resource persons for the day were Mrs. Pratibha Kamath and Mrs. Ranjani P, Assistant Professors, Department of OBG(N) MCON, MAHE, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 and Mrs. Clara Pramila D’souza, Assistant Lecturer, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网 School of Nursing, 亚洲通_亚洲通官网.

Mrs. Pratibha Kamath imparted knowledge on breast, cervical and uterine cancer to the gathering. She said that, the word ‘cancer’ itself causes fear in the people because of lack of knowledge and awareness regarding cancer. Further she added that in the past few decades the death rate due to infectious diseases have come down but have increased due to cancer. She advised periodical health checkup is necessary for both men and women after 35 years of age as diseases like cancer can be cured completely if it is diagnosed early.

Mrs. Clara Pramila D’souza in her deliberation on “Menopause”, explained on pre and post-menopausal symptoms and how to overcome them.

Mrs Ranjani P demonstrated simple yogasanas for the healthy living. The audience interacted with all resource persons and put forth their doubts regarding the topic discussed. Dr. Judith A Noronha, Professor and Head, Department of OBG (N) also clarified the doubts along with the resource persons. The program ended with the vote of thanks.
